FAQ

What is Autobiographical theatre? THIS IS THEATRE ALL ABOUT YOU, created by YOU.  We will give you prompts to talk all about your awesome self, then the Lionheart team will help you stage your own story. By the end of the workshop, we will weave everyone's story together to create a short piece of theatre

Workshop Breakdown:

Morning:
  • Warm-ups: It's vital to warm up our voice, body, and mind so we can be ready to create exciting new theatre!
  • Improvisation and Ensemble Building Techniques: In order to create together, we will go through a series of activities to build concentration and create a performance language as a team along with a series of improv exercises to generate material.
  • Comedy and Improv: Without a script or a single rehearsal, improv helps performers generate new material, develop strong listening skills, be spontaneous, play creatively, and gain confidence onstage. Say "YES AND . . ."  to some fun and funny improv games to get the creative juices flowing and build a strong ensemble.

Afternoon
  • Autobiographical Interview Methods: We will interview each other as well as take some personal writing time to generate text and explore the power of personal narratives.
  • From The Page to The Stage: Once we interview each other we will weave our stories together to create a short piece of theatre written by YOU!

Why are you doing this?
In the Summer of 2019, Lionheart will begin a multi-week project in collaboration with The New Ballet Ensemble School and The Stax Museum. The summer kickoff will be a 3-week intensive where you will immerse yourself in writing, improvisation, physical theatre and be mentored by a team of local and visiting guest artists. We are recruiting middle and high school students from the New Ballet and STAX/Soulsville community.  This workshop will give you an intro to what's in store for the project. Info about applying to the summer intensive will be available after the workshop and also posted to our website soon!
